Burnout isn't always about too much work.
Sometimes, it’s about too much pretending.
When I took a sabbatical in 2024, it was the first time in three decades I’d taken more than two weeks off in a row.
Yes, three decades.
And I’m a parent, so YES, my maternity leave was two weeks long.
That time away in 2024 gave me something I hadn't had in a long time:
Space. Clarity. And the capacity to finally ask: What's driving me?
Here's what I've come to believe:
Burnout doesn't just come from overcommitting.
It comes from a confused identity.
From holding it all together. Performing. Powering through.
Burnout sneaks in when we’re doing too much of what’s not aligned:
🌀 Too much masking
🌀 Too much people-pleasing
🌀 Too much pretending we're fine
What if capacity isn't about time or energy? How much can you handle pretending?
What if the real unlock is self-awareness? Really knowing:
👉 What fills you up
👉 What drains you
👉 What version of you is driving.
The break didn't make me "soft."
It made me sharp. Focused. More honest.
Self-awareness isn't fluff. It’s strategy.
