Lessons from Dogs

What we can learn from dogs.

My best and favorite work companions have always been my dogs.

Sampson. Bo. Lexi. Tank. Benjamin. Brooklyn. From my 20s on, they’ve been my constant work-from-home partners, my built-in accountability coaches, my moral support, my stress relief, and my excuse to step away from the screen and move my body.

They’ve taught me things no leadership book ever could.

They've made me accountable — because they need care, consistency, and presence, whether I feel like showing up or not. They've made me aware of my energy, my tone, my emotions, and how those things impact others. They've made me more

observant, noticing the small shifts, the quiet moments, the unspoken needs. And they've made me deeply appreciative of routine, of loyalty, of simple joys, of being fully in the moment.

They are loyal to a fault. They protect without question. They sense danger before words ever form. They ground me when stress creeps in and remind me to breathe, move, and reset.

Some people say, and have said, that I’m obsessed with my dogs. Maybe they’re right.

But what I can say without hesitation is this: My dogs have been more loyal than some friends and family. More supportive than most of my bosses. And more loving… period.

They don't care about titles, performance metrics, bad days, or mistakes. They care that you show up. That you’re present. That you’re you.

If we showed up for each other the way dogs show up for us, with loyalty, protection, forgiveness, and unconditional love, the world (and work) would look very different.

And honestly?I’ll take a room full of dogs as coworkers any day. 🐾💛
