Ever wonder what separates the top 1% from everyone else?
It’s not luck. It’s not JUST talent. And it’s definitely not hustle alone.
It’s how they think.
Working with high-performing leaders and teams, I’ve noticed clear mindset shifts that consistently show up among the top 1% performers. These aren't wild secrets, just intentional ways of thinking most people never pause long enough to develop.
Here are a few big ones:
They think in decades, not days. They set bold, long-range goals and reverse engineer the steps to achieve them. Most people are just reacting to the week ahead. Remember the adage, proper planning prevents poor performance.
They make decisions based on principles, not panic. Data matters. Values matter. Emotion still exists, but it's not the driver. The average person often avoids risk; top performers calculate and leverage it.
They protect their time like a rare asset. Every “yes” is expensive. They focus on high-leverage work and delegate the rest. Busy ≠ productive. I reminded a client last week that “no” is a complete sentence and they do not have to apologize or give a reason. I am giving you permission to say no.
They outlearn everyone. Books. Coaching. Feedback. Challenge. They stay uncomfortable on purpose. Growth is the goal. Comfort is the ceiling.
They use money to create leverage. It’s not about saving every penny. It’s about building systems, investing in assets, and creating options; the top 1% invest in themselves, their companies, and their individual growth.
They intentionally choose who they surround themselves with. The environment is everything. If the room doesn’t challenge them, they find a new room.
One more thing: They don’t wait to “feel ready.” They decide who they want to be and start acting like that person.
Not everyone wants to think like the 1%, and that’s okay. But if you do, if you’re feeling the pull to level up, it starts with the thoughts you choose to believe and the questions you start asking yourself daily.
Want to explore how this applies to your leadership, strategy, or team? Let's talk. I've got tools and strategy to help you thrive and summit to your top success.
