✈️ Holiday Travel and Business Strategy Have More in Common Than You Think

My 20-year-old son is flying from LA to NY today to visit friends for the holiday. He’s been fortunate to travel extensively, with me and solo, all over the world.
He knows the drill.
And yet…
My phone has been blowing up with stressed-out messages:
🚙 Delayed Uber
🧍♂️ Long security lines
⏰ Fear of missing his cross-country flight
I feel confident he’ll make it, but I'm bracing for the next flurry:
“No food.”
“No water.”
“I forgot to charge my phone.”
The irony? He knows how this works. He's encountered every obstacle before. But this time, his planning just didn't measure up.
And that’s the trap we all fall into, and experience doesn't replace preparation.
In business, it’s the same story. We might think we've seen it all. But if we don't plan ahead:
We scramble when avoidable problems arise
We burn energy on reactive decisions
We miss opportunities that require calm, proactive leadership
As we head into year-end planning, it’s a great time to pause and ask:
🛫 Are we boarding with intention, or rushing to the gate?
At Vetta Sales Consulting, I use the Aptive Index to help leaders anticipate people dynamics, align roles before turbulence hits, and plan for sustainable success. It’s about working smarter, and not just reacting better.
Because knowing what can go wrong isn't the same as planning, so it doesn’t.
